Character Information

Name: Steve Burnside
Fandom: Resident Evil
Desired Age: Nineteen
PB: Leonardo Dicaprio
Occupation: Thief/scam artist/troublemaker
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Appearance: Steve is a pretty boy, with delicate features and a rather feminine build. He is 5'7" and a little on the scrawny side, with dark auburn hair and blue eyes. He dresses casually in jeans, plain t-shirts, sneakers, and hooded sweatshirts.
Personality: First impressions of Steve are usually that he's a smart-mouthed little punk who could use a good thump upside the head and that's about right. Steve is an ass and he knows it. He lives by the philosophy that he's got nothing left to lose and he's not looking to make any friends. He'll tell you exactly what's on his mind, lacking tact or finesse. His mouth has a reputation for writing checks his butt can't cash.

In many ways he can be very childlike and dorky, especially when it comes to playing with weapons or getting up to no good. When things don't go his way however, it's best to duck and cover. His tantrums are legendary.

Underneath it all, Steve is simply lost. He wants to feel close to other people, but has severe trust issues. He likes attention, but often succumbs to his paranoia and deliberately pushes people away.
History:
(*Note: History prior to CV is based largely on assumption and a cheesy photograph carried with him in the game)
Steve led an ordinary life prior to the events in Code: Veronica. He was an only child - just one of many brats who enjoyed the luxury of a parent on Umbrella Corporation's generous payroll. His father had been with Umbrella for as long as he'd been alive, but spent his spare time bonding with his son, teaching him how to fly planes and master various types of guns at the local shooting range. It wasn't until the age of seventeen that the knowledge Steve's father imparted would come in handy.

When Umbrella learned that Mr. Burnside was selling highly illegal company secrets on the side it dispatched a team of mercenaries to arrest the man and his oblivious family. The mercs executed Steve's hysterical mother in their home and took both Steve and his father into custody, shipping them off to Rockfort Island, which housed Umbrella's prison for traitors.

Rockfort Island was attacked by a terrorist group soon after he and his father arrived. The explosives fired at the military training facility and surrounding buildings destroyed many of the landmarks and allowed for prisoners to escape in the chaos that ensued. Steve was unfortunate - but as he would learn later, actually fortunate - enough to be standing near a wall when it collapsed, pinning his body under a pile of rubble when the T-Virus that was leaked on the island began to ravage its population.

By the time that he awoke and crawled free from the debris, his father was missing and everyone he encountered was either dead, dying, or already reanimated and hungry for living flesh. Steve managed to find a weapon and fight his way to the center courtyard of the military training facility where he met - and nearly murdered - fellow prisoner, Claire Redfield. Steve, reluctant to trust anyone, apologized for mistaking Claire for a zombie but left her to fend for herself. It would take several hours, several occasions making it abundantly clear how much of an ass he was, and several turns saving each other's lives before Steve would come to appreciate Claire's help and begin to develop feelings for her.

Steve's feelings for Claire were put to the test when his zombified father attacked her. He emptied two clips into his father's bloated, thoroughly dead body and had a breakdown. Later, he would admit to Claire that he could no longer bring himself to rely on people. While he didn't say so aloud however, instead of skirting the issue by avoiding Claire's help as he had previously, Steve at that point took it upon himself to protect her, in effect not having to rely on her for so long as he could have her rely on him instead.

The two escaped Rockfort Island via plane soon after, only to have Alfred Ashford, a crazed Umbrella executive, hijack the controls by remote location and send the plane to a crash landing near another Umbrella base in the antarctic. Steve mortally wounded Alfred in a gunfight that followed and he and Claire would attempt another escape from Umbrella, only to be attacked and captured by Alexia, Alfred's virally-enhanced sister whom Alfred woke from stasis as his last act before bleeding to death.

Alexia preyed on Steve first, probably in retribution for killing her brother. She pinned his body to a chair with an over-sized battle axe and injected him the T-Veronica virus, leaving Claire to discover him just as he was mutating into a tyrant. In his tyrant form, Steve ripped the battle ax from the wall and proceeded to attack Claire. Claire narrowly avoided being cut in half with one swing by hiding behind a gate, only to have one of Alexia's tentacles wrap around her body and hold her in place.

As the tyrant pounded the steel bars with the battle ax to get to Claire, Steve's human mind somehow gained a modicum of control over the tyrant and swung the ax toward the tentacle trapping Claire in the room with him. Enraged, Alexia struck Steve with what was left of this tentacle, slamming the tyrant against a near wall. Steve's body reverted to its human form as it reeled from internal injuries.

He died telling Claire that he was glad to have met her and that he loved her. His abandoned body was later recovered by the same terrorist group that attacked Rockfort Island, the leader of which having stated the intention of reviving him.

In-Game History: Steve has always been a bit of a misfit. He was B average student with an attitude problem, an appetite for mischief, and a permanent reservation in detention. After graduating (much to the surprise of his parents), he struck out on his own, but quickly found the typical 9-to-5 jobs a bore. He now rents a tiny apartment in a slummier section of Harmony and earns money on day-by-day basis, usually having to resort to scamming and thieving to make ends meet.
